I credit Robert Jay Lifton's book 'Thought Reform and Psychology of Totalism' , particularly chapter 22 - for 'freeing my mind' and enabling me to escape my long nightmare of cult involvement. I escaped from the Unification Church on my own after I encountered Lifton's book hidden in one of the Church leader's rooms. I was shocked, to say the least, to encounter such a book in our holy leader's possession - but then immediately justified its presence -' ah, yes - he's studying the enemy'.
